 -
                                            14.
                                            >The door slams shut in your face.
 -
                                            15.
                                            >For a while you don't bother to move; you just stare at the solid oak, wondering where you went wrong.
 -
                                            16.
                                            >With a heavy heart you turn away from Anon's house and begin the trek back to your home.
 -
                                            17.
                                            >A path you had taken far too many times to count.
 -
                                            18.
                                            >How long has it been now?
 -
                                            19.
                                            >You think it's been over two years.
 -
                                            20.
                                            >The same thing every other day.
 -
                                            21.
                                            >And yet you keep coming back for another shot.
 -
                                            22.
                                            >Some desperate internal sense of optimism that makes you think that perhaps he'll take you one day.
 -
                                            23.
                                            >Your friends wouldn't support your endeavours.
 -
                                            24.
                                            >It's been a while since they had spoken to you.
 -
                                            25.
                                            >At least a month, that much is certain.
 -
                                            26.
                                            >As you walk through the trees to your home, you stare at the dirt road, steady hoof steps carrying you back to your little cottage.
 -
                                            27.
                                            >The animals you had kept as company had all moved on; they had found homes or simply become bored with your company.
 -
                                            28.
                                            >You don't mind.
 -
                                            29.
                                            >It was always clear that their residence was temporary, so seeing them go didn't so much fill you with sadness as it did with pride.
 -
                                            30.
                                            >Your little friends were growing up and moving on.
 -
                                            31.
                                            >Something you should have done a while ago.
 -
                                            32.
                                            >The cottage greets you, a small tired smile working its way onto your face.
 -
                                            33.
                                            >Walk over the miniature bridge and past a bed of dying flowers.
 -
                                            34.
                                            >You haven't had much time to water them lately.
 -
                                            35.
                                            >As you reach forward and push open the door, you take note of the paint.
 -
                                            36.
                                            >It's chipped in places, and peeling in others.
 -
                                            37.
                                            >Another job for your steadily growing backlog.
 -
                                            38.
                                            >But you'll get round to it.
 -
                                            39.
                                            >Just as soon as you've woo'd Anon.
 -
                                            40.
                                            >Then everything will be peaches.
 -
                                            41.
                                            >You stand in your front room.
 -
                                            42.
                                            >The dark corners seem colder than normal.
 -
                                            43.
                                            >They used to hold life in the form of animals.
 -
                                            44.
                                            >Now there aren't too many left.
 -
                                            45.
                                            >A family of hummingbirds is somewhere in here.
 -
                                            46.
                                            >You'll look for them later and see if they need food.
 -
                                            47.
                                            >A noise to your left alerts you to a rapidly moving white shape.
 -
                                            48.
                                            >Something small and furry collides with your leg and clutches on tight.
 -
                                            49.
"There there, Angel; I said I would be back!"
 -
                                            50.
                                            >He just stares at you.
 -
                                            51.
                                            >You've had him long enough to recognise pity when he shows it.
 -
                                            52.
"It'll be fine, I promise! I have a really good idea for tomorrow!"
 -
                                            53.
                                            >He lets go and shakes his head.
 -
                                            54.
                                            "Angel?"
 -
                                            55.
                                            >The bunny gives you another hard stare before hopping away towards the kitchen.
 -
                                            56.
                                            >You follow him, and watch as he tries to pull open a cupboard to get to its contents.
 -
                                            57.
                                            >Drift over and gently pull the door towards you.
 -
                                            58.
                                            >Angel doesn't thank you as he pilfers it for carrots and other vegetables.
 -
                                            59.
                                            >He was always so much more independent than the other animals.
 -
                                            60.
                                            >Made you wonder why he never left.
 -
                                            61.
                                            >Probably for your cooking.
 -
                                            62.
                                            >You smile at this thought and watch as your friend assembles a bowl of vegetables on the kitchen floor.
 -
                                            63.
"That looks good, Angel! I bet you'll enjoy that!"
 -
                                            64.
                                            >Give him a big smile, the kind that he loves to see.
 -
                                            65.
                                            >He doesn't respond, and instead pushes the bowl along the floor towards you.
 -
                                            66.
                                            >Your eyes jump between the bunny and the food.
 -
                                            67.
"Aren't you going to eat it?"
 -
                                            68.
                                            >He shakes his head and jabs a paw at you.
 -
                                            69.
"Oh but I'm not hungry! I ate this morning!"
 -
                                            70.
                                            >Angel winces and points at the clock.
 -
                                            71.
                                            >It's 10:22 at night.
 -
                                            72.
"Aww, don't worry about me, I'll be fine! You eat up."
 -
                                            73.
                                            >Another shake of the head followed by another, more forceful paw jab.
 -
                                            74.
                                            "Angel, I'm not hungry, honest."
 -
                                            75.
                                            >Stand up and frown at him.
 -
                                            76.
                                            >He rushes over and tries to get you to sit, pointing at you and the bowl over and over again.
 -
                                            77.
                                            "Angel, no."
 -
                                            78.
                                            >The bunny seems desperate at this point, and grabs his own ears, letting out a frustrated squeak.
 -
                                            79.
                                            >You turn around and walk out.
 -
                                            80.
                                            >Sometimes you just need to be firm with them.
 -
                                            81.
                                            >Angel watches you go.
 -
                                            82.
                                            >He looks back at the bowl and snarls before kicking it over and following you.
 -
                                            83.
                                            >Ascend the stairs.
 -
                                            84.
                                            >It's colder on the top floor.
 -
                                            85.
                                            >You're sure you paid your bills.
 -
                                            86.
                                            >Though you haven't worked in a while.
 -
                                            87.
                                            >You just don't have the time.
 -
                                            88.
                                            >Crawl into bed and sigh, thinking about what you were going to do tomorrow.
 -
                                            89.
                                            >Angel follows you in and hops on to the bed.
 -
                                            90.
                                            >He points at your mane.
 -
                                            91.
"Oh, I don't need to brush it, it'll be fine."
 -
                                            92.
                                            >He points at your mouth.
 -
                                            93.
"Umm, I don't think I bought any more toothpaste while I was out, sorry..."
 -
                                            94.
                                            >A sigh escapes him and he climbs in next to you.
 -
                                            95.
                                            >He's warmer than your bed.
 -
                                            96.
                                            >You pull him close and smile.
 -
                                            97.
                                            "Good night, Angel."
 -
                                            98.
                                            >He doesn't respond.
 -
                                            99.
                                            >You snuggle him closer and close your eyes, letting sleep carry you away.
 -
                                            100.

 -
                                            101.
                                            >Wake up to the feeling of something slapping you.
 -
                                            102.
                                            >Opening your eyes slowly, you see a blurry white shape stood over you.
 -
                                            103.
                                            >Wipe the sleep from them and blink again.
 -
                                            104.
                                            >Angel is stood on top of you, slapping your cheek with a paw.
 -
                                            105.
"O-Oh, good morning to you too, Angel."
 -
                                            106.
                                            >He points at the clock next to the bed.
 -
                                            107.
                                            >Look over at it, still drowsy.
 -
                                            108.
                                            >Gasp when you see the time.
 -
                                            109.
"Eight fifty?! Oh my goodness, I'm late!"
 -
                                            110.
                                            >You rush out of bed.
 -
                                            111.
                                            >Angel seems glad to see this, and scurries after you.
 -
                                            112.
                                            >He overtakes you on the stairs, even despite you using your wings and points at a sack of chicken feed in the corner.
 -
                                            113.
"I'll do that later, Angel, I promise!"
 -
                                            114.
                                            >His paw lowers slightly; his enthusiasm curbed.
 -
                                            115.
"I really have to get going, Anon leaves for work in a little while!"
 -
                                            116.
                                            >At the mention of Anon, Angel lowers his head and his shoulders slump.
 -
                                            117.
                                            >Crouch down next to him and pet him.
 -
                                            118.
"Don't worry, as soon as Anon falls for me, everything will be okay!"
 -
                                            119.
                                            >With that, you rush out the front door, not even bothering to shut it.
 -
                                            120.
                                            >Angel will do so.
 -
                                            121.
                                            >He's such a good boy.
 -
                                            122.
                                            >You fly towards Anon's home, pushing yourself to get there before he leaves.
 -
                                            123.
                                            >As his house comes into view, you see him locking up his home, ready to leave.
 -
                                            124.
                                            >Land in front of him as he turns around.
 -
                                            125.
                                            "H-hello!"
 -
                                            126.
                                            >He takes one look at you and cringes.
 -
                                            127.
                                            >"Good... Morning, Fluttershy."
 -
                                            128.
"So umm, what are you up to?"
 -
                                            129.
                                            >"You know what I'm doing..."
 -
                                            130.
                                            >He marches past you towards the town centre.
 -
                                            131.
                                            "Working?"
 -
                                            132.
                                            >Anon nods.
 -
                                            133.
                                            >You swell with pride.
 -
                                            134.
"I know everything about you, Anon~"
 -
                                            135.
                                            >"Yeah. I know."
 -
                                            136.
                                            >Trot to keep up with him.
 -
                                            137.
"S-so um, want to go on a date?"
 -
                                            138.
                                            >He doesn't reply.
 -
                                            139.
"I said: Do you want to--"
 -
                                            140.
                                            >"I know what you said, Fluttershy. The answer is always no."
 -
                                            141.
                                            >He turns to you, his face a picture of concern.
 -
                                            142.
                                            >"It's always no. It's been no for years."
 -
                                            143.
                                            >Your heart flutters as he looks straight into your eyes.
 -
                                            144.
                                            >"Every day it's no. Please, Fluttershy, go home."
 -
                                            145.
                                            >He seems so worried.
 -
                                            146.
                                            >Is it your mane?
 -
                                            147.
                                            >You knew you should have brushed it before leaving...
 -
                                            148.
                                            >Reach forwards and touch his leg.
 -
                                            149.
"You don't have to worry about a thing, Anon; I have just the thing that will get you to fall for me, just you watch!"
 -
                                            150.
                                            >He just stares at you.
 -
                                            151.
                                            >A hand reaches up and wipes his eye.
 -
                                            152.
                                            >Must have some dust in it.
 -
                                            153.
                                            >These roads are in really poor condition.
 -
                                            154.
"You like sweet foods, so how about we go to Sugarcube corner? Doesn't that sound nice?"
 -
                                            155.
                                            >Anon puts down his bag and squats in front of you.
 -
                                            156.
                                            >Then he reaches forward and hugs you.
 -
                                            157.
                                            >Oh goodness, it's finally happening!
 -
                                            158.
                                            >He holds you close for a while and doesn't say anything.
 -
                                            159.
                                            >You don't need him to~
 -
                                            160.
                                            >Eventually he lets go and stands up.
 -
                                            161.
                                            >"J-just go home, Fluttershy. Please. For me."
 -
                                            162.
                                            >You give him a dopey grin.
 -
                                            163.
"Ohh, you're playing hard to get, I know. But just you wait!"
 -
                                            164.
                                            >Take flight and beam down at him.
 -
                                            165.
                                            "I'll be back tomorrow!"
 -
                                            166.
                                            >"I know you will."
 -
                                            167.
                                            >Turn and fly back to your cottage.
 -
                                            168.
                                            >Anon picks up his bag and wipes his eyes again.
 -
                                            169.
                                            >"You always are."
 -
                                            170.

 -
                                            171.
                                            >Flying back home, you think you saw Rarity talking to Twilight.
 -
                                            172.
                                            >She sees you overhead and for a second seems like she's about to say something.
 -
                                            173.
                                            >But she stops herself.
 -
                                            174.
                                            >Maybe next time she'll think of something to say.
 -
                                            175.
                                            >You haven't been to the spa with her in so long.
 -
                                            176.
                                            >Things will pick up once you get Anon though.
 -
                                            177.
                                            >When you get home, Angel is waiting inside with a bowl of vegetables.
 -
                                            178.
                                            >He sees you enter and seems ecstatic.
 -
                                            179.
"Yes, I'm home early! Anon told me to come back."
 -
                                            180.
                                            >Angel nods eagerly and points at the food.
 -
                                            181.
                                            >Your stomach grumbles.
 -
                                            182.
                                            "Oooh alright..."
 -
                                            183.
                                            >He claps his paws together and pushes the bowl along the floor towards you.
 -
                                            184.
                                            >You settle down next to him and help yourself to some of the carrots.
 -
                                            185.
                                            >They seem to be a bit dirty.
 -
                                            186.
                                            >Is this the same bowl from last night?
 -
                                            187.
                                            >You ignore this thought and keep eating.
 -
                                            188.
                                            >Angel watches you intently, pointing at each piece of nourishment in the bowl whenever you pause.
 -
                                            189.
                                            >Under his watchful eye, you eat everything in it.
 -
                                            190.
                                            "There, all gone; happy?"
 -
                                            191.
                                            >He nods.
 -
                                            192.
                                            >Giggle at him.
 -
                                            193.
                                            "Thank you, little bunny~"
 -
                                            194.
                                            >He allows you to pet him.
 -
                                            195.
"You're my guardian angel, you know that?"
 -
                                            196.
                                            >The bunny just keeps nodding, albeit with a slightly more sullen expression.
 -
                                            197.
                                            >Silence permeates the air.
 -
                                            198.
                                            >Normally there would be the constant chatter of animals.
 -
                                            199.
                                            >But now it's just you and Angel.
 -
                                            200.
                                            >And possibly that family of hummingbirds.
 -
                                            201.
"You know, I think I'm finally making progress with Anon!"
 -
                                            202.
                                            >Angel looks up at you, a pair of weary eyes looking into yours.
 -
                                            203.
                                            >He motions for you to continue with a paw.
 -
                                            204.
                                            >You excitedly launch into what you're going to do once Anon is living here.
 -
                                            205.
"...And we'll repaint the doors! And the back window will be fixed, and the roof will be patched up so that leak in the bathroom will stop!"
 -
                                            206.
                                            >He just watches you talk, dutifully listening.
 -
                                            207.
                                            >Pull him close into a hug.
 -
                                            208.
                                            >He carefully returns it, but stays quiet.
 -
                                            209.
                                            >You break the silence.
 -
                                            210.
                                            "You know..."
 -
                                            211.
                                            >A soft breeze blows through one of the cracked windows, shifting the musty curtains and scattering the dust that was gathering on the wooden floorboards.
 -
                                            212.
"I really think things are going to start looking up."
 -
                                            213.
                                            >You shudder, clutching to your always warm companion.
 -
                                            214.
"Everything will get better once Anon is here..."
 -
                                            215.

 -
                                            216.
                                            "Everything will be... Fine..."
 -
                                            217.

 -
                                            218.
                                            The End.
 -
                                            219.

 -
                                            220.
Damn, reading back, this is really depressing.
